Hey everyone!
Remember agggges ago when I won that
awesome giveaway for a Biba makeup bag, MAC lipstick and this very mascara,
Benefit Bad Gal Lash (£16.50)*? Well, that was way back in
May, and I still hadn't touched this mascara because I had so many others to review and didn't want to waste it. I finally got around to trying it out this week.
I kind of feel like I don't need to review the packaging - this is a mascara almost everyone recognises - it was one of the products every girl in my highschool had in her handbag. It's nice enough, chunky and easily findable in the mess that is my bag at the moment. The brush is incredibly fat and bristly - this makes it quite difficult to use in my opinion, especially to reach the smaller, fluttery lashes in the inner and outer corners.

I feel like I should apologise again for the state of my brows - I keep meaning to get them threaded but never seem to have the time! I'd also like to apologise for the smudge on my upper lid - this is a result of my being unwieldy with the big thick brush.
This is a very black, pigmented mascara, but it is not difficult to remove, I found. I liked that it went on blacker than black - I did not like that it was next to impossible to coat my bottom lashes without smudging. In the future I may use this only on the upper lashes.
I like that it adds volume. If you read the blog regularly you will know I usually go for light formula, fluttery mascaras rather than thick volume boosting formulas, but this didn't feel to clumpy to me. It made me look like I had very thick lashes, I thought, and emphasised my eyes in a way I enjoyed.
It did not separate and spread out the lashes in the way I normally like, but for dark, smokey volume I'd pick this over Makeup Forever's Smoky Lash any day. For more dramatic eyes this will do you well.
It is a little expensive, so I'm more likely to repurchase one of my current favourites (ELF/Soap & Glory) before this, but it does pack more of a punch than most of my mascaras. I was just left a little (little!) disappointed as I thought that if everyone had it, it must be a miracle worker. I know. But as my lashes are so straight and refuse to hold a curl anyway, no mascara is going to have that kind of impact on me.
What do you think? Have you tried this mascara?

I've tried this before, and I was also a little disappointed. I didn't feel like it gave me anything extra special compared to my favourite Covergirl Lash Blast!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried Covergirl (we don't have it in the UK) but I keep hearing such great things!

I have heard that - I bought it for my mum for her birthday and she seems to really like it. I think I have to wait till I use up a couple of mascaras and then I'll give it a go.
