Hey everyone!
Does anyone else buy or subscribe to Elle? Because when my copy came in the post this month, there was a free gift with it - a Jemma Kidd Makeup School i-Glamour Define Eyeliner in 03 Blue (£14.00). I could only find it in black on the Jemma Kidd website and it looks like perhaps the blue colour hasn't been released yet. Anyway, here's how it looked when it came to me:
And then I opened the lid and saw the liner was all melted and broken, probably because we had our only hot spell of the summer whilst the magazine was being delivered. So I sharpened it, and this is what it looked like:
And then I swatched it and this happened:
If you look carefully you can see crumbly bits on the swatch below.
It's a very nice colour, a deeper blue than either NARS Abbey Road, which also has a metallic texture where this is matte. It's kind of prussian blue. However, the texture of this pencil - whether it's because it was a free sample product sent out or whether this is how it always is, was difficult to use.It was crumbly and dry, and the swatch above took several swipes. When I applied to my eye (using a very blunt pencil) I couldn't get it opaque as I was loathe to apply that much pressure to my delicate eye skin:
It faded throughout the day at work, with a little transfer around the corners of my eyes. I'm hoping this is a one off, because I have heard such great things about Jemma Kidd Makeup School's other products. I just could not get this to work for me, sadly.
Have you tried this liner? Did it work better for you?

That's a shame!I've only ever tried a Jemma Kidd mascara and I loved it x
ReplyDeleteIt really is! I'm looking forward to trying more Jemma Kidd products in the future though, and hopefully this is just a one off.

I was very disappointed by the black eyeliner. When applying it would tug my eyelids and pigmentation was rubbish too. I hope to try the foudation and hope it lives up to expections.

Glad to hear I am not the only one! I hope to try other things and find them better as well.

Have you tried putting it in the fridge before you sharpen it? Should harden it up x
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I want it harder - it was dry and crumbly, but not soft. Applying it to my eye was kind of sore already!

I received the black eyeliner, and I was really disappointed with it. The formula wasn't creamy at all and very hard to work with,

That's a shame! Although I am glad to hear I'm not the only one who struggled with it!

I haven't tried it but I've seen this with a lot of eyeliners and I don't know how to work with them. Avon and GOSH have some of the best eyeliners x
ReplyDeleteI have an AVON liner that I really like. It's a shame this one was so disappointing :(

It does look like it has a bit of a tricky texture to work with ... and that's a shame that it crumbles so easily! The colour is really pretty nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteI know! I was upset because I love the colour :(

What a shame! The color looks so nice on your swatch!
ReplyDeleteAnd at £14.00... WOW.
I know! So expensive too :(

The eyeliner seems to be inside a case, do you sharpen this bit as well? Because I see no other way of getting the eyeliner out.
ReplyDeleteNo it's just a normal pencil, which you sharpen as normal.

Mine was exactly the same. I sharpened it repeatedly but it kept crumbling until I ended up with a stump and it went in the bin. I would definitely not buy it!
