As you are all probably aware by now, I'm taking part in Makeup Savvy's 15 Day Nail Challenge. It's a lot of fun, and today's theme is Galaxy! I've never done galaxy nails before, but I tried my best, and here are the results:
This is the only manicure I've done where I wanted to take multiple pictures. Ok, my nails aren't in the best state, and my cleanup's not so good, but I think these nails are a lot of fun.
Here's what I used:
First, I applied a layer of single-coater Model's Own In The Navy (£5) as a base. I then applied a coat of one of my favourite layering polishes, Max Factor's Fantasy Fire (£3.99). This added a lovely duochrome effect and made the blue seem deeper and sparklier. I then tore up pieces of a triangular makeup sponge, And used this to apply small smudges of Barry M's Blue Moon (£2.99) and Avon's Viva Pink (currently on sale for £3.50)*. Then I added (again with the sponge) two different 'starry' glitters - Model's Own Disco Mix (£5) and Model's Own Juicy Jules (£5).
I finished with some larger white dots to represent stars using Topshop's Nail Art Pen in Frozen (£6.50). Then a topcoat and I was done!

This is fantastic, my favourite so far, it looks really great, well done you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'm kind of pleased with them too :D

Thanks so much! You should give it a go, it's super easy, especially for someone like me who is rubbish at more complicated nail art!

These are awesome ! Could you tell me how the topshop nail art pen compares to the Models Own one ? It's just Topshop has more colours than Models Own and I was wondering whether the extra 50p is worth it !
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Well, the Topshop nail art pen, as you said, comes in a wider range of colours and is pretty easy to use, especially for finer line work as the nib is thinner. It does take a while for product to come out and you HAVE to clean the nib with nail polish remover after each use or it will clog up over time and you won't be able to use the fine point. This is the case with Frozen, which I used here. I had to use the side of the nib and my dots came out bigger than I wanted. If there's a specific colour that appeals to you, I'd go for the Topshop ones. The blue one is especially nice.

This is super awesome! You're doing such a great job sticking with this challenge - I love the creativity and the variety :) They really look like galaxy nails. I really want to try using a sponge to dab on nail polish but just haven't gotten around to experimenting with it. Your post gave me inspiration :) And I really wish I could find Fantasy Fire but it's not available where I live :(
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It is hard to stick to it, especially since I really loved these nails and then had to switch them out for something new! If you do try it, I'd love to see the results! Thank you!
DeleteAww, no way! That sucks! It sold out here almost straight away too.
