Matte Lipstick Series: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Mauve it Over

Hey everyone!
As you may have noticed, I have a bit of a thing for matte finish lipsticks. I don't know why, just right now I'm preferring the look to a glossy shine, and I'm constantly looking for my favourite matte. I've already got Chanel and MAC matte lipsticks, as well as Barry M. and Topshop - you can see them all in blogposts past. However, I'm going to be doing a series on drugstore mattes and high-end mattes, culminating in a best/worst type post, so if mattes are your thing, keep reading!

I picked up this Revlon Matte since I'd been so impressed with the Black Cherry lipstick I bought a little while ago. I love how the packaging itself reflects the finish of the lipstick!

This was one of my favourite colours from Revlon's range of mattes - oddly, they seem to be one of the only drugstore brands that do an explicitly matte range! Here it is swatched:

Mauve it Over is a really peachy nude, with warm undertones, so I was little worried that it wouldn't suit me. However, here it is swatched on the lips and I love it:

Please excuse the condition of my lips - they are dry alone, it's not the lipstick making them that way. This is honestly one of the more moisturising feeling lipsticks (in a matte finish) that I have tried. It applies really easily, doesn't drag, and doesn't feel chalky. It also lives up to it's long-lasting expectations. For me (with drinking) it lasted about 3 or 4 hours. It's a lovely colour (although I'm not sure where they got the name, isn't mauve like a lavender colour?) and I'm so glad I picked it up. I'm consistently impressed by Revlon as a high street brand.

You can get it here for £7.49

I Won A Giveaway! Reviews and Swatches: MAC, Estee Lauder, Yardley, OPI, Avon & More!

Hey everyone!
I really want to share with you the prizes I received for a giveaway I entered over at the amazing Addicted to Beauty. It came in the post this morning and I was so excited I literally sprinted to the front door. I love all of my prizes and want to say a huge thank you for them, as it's really cheered me up after a week of high stress Uni work!

So this will be pretty picture heavy. I swatched all of the lip and face products sent to me, have the perfume on now, but the nail polishes will be featured in upcoming NOTDs because I just wanted to hurry up and show you!
So here's what I won:

I love the purple envelope it came in! And you can see I got a lot of stuff. Yardley Iris perfume, Paul & Joe Protective Foundation Primer UV 02, Soap & Glory Wish Upon A Jar 21 Day Collagen Overhaul Cream, W7 Perky Peach Lipbalm, MAC Blush in Pink Cult, Nails Inc Polish in Special K, OPI Polish in I Only Drink Champagne, Bourjois So Laque! in Santal Opulent, Avon Glazewear Sparkle in Gleaming Gold, and and Estee Lauder Limited Edition Pure Colour Extravagant Five Colour Lip Palette.

WOW.
So you can imagine my glee when I opened up the packet. Then I got down to swatching everything. Here are my first impressions!

This Soap & Glory face cream looks amazing! I really love the packaging - it's got such a retro, 50's feel to it and makes my dressing table look a little more sparkly. The cream itself is rose coloured and smells orangey, and claims to make skin look plumper and younger in 3 weeks. Whilst I'm only 21, I feel like my skin looks tired because I don't have the most restful of lives at the moment, so it should be good to see if this makes me look brighter and more awake! I'll test this out over the next three weeks and report back.

As I've mentioned a couple of times before, I love NARS Multi-Protect Primer. But it's very expensive. So I've been using a Rimmel Primer for a while but I might have to give this a shot too - because it's not clear, and has an orangey undertone, this might be especially good for reducing the dark circles under my eyes. At first swatch it feels slightly lighter than the Rimmel primer, but not as fluid as NARS.

Three nail polishes! I've heard that the OPI I Only Drink Champagne is now discontinued so I'm chuffed about that. And isn't the Nails Inc bottle so cute? I'll be trying the Bourjois first though so you'll see that here soon.

I have this on as we speak. It's actually quite lovely - when I looked it up online I wasn't sure it'd be my kind of frangrance but it settles into a lovely fragrance. It's clean but floral - described officially as having top notes of green leaves and citrus (yay!), heart notes of iris, muguet, violet and rose and a warm vanilla base. It smells classic and not as mature as I thought it would. Online, I've heard that if you like Hermes Hiris, this is a less expensive alternative.

Please ignore my broken out chin and the fact that in cold weather, the scar on my lip comes shining through with renewed force! This W7 lip balm is nice - I like the slide-up packaging a lot and it will be helpful in this horrible weather for avoiding chapped lips.

Isn't the sparkly packaging of this Avon lipgloss cute? I was worried it was going to be overly frosty and cold (a type of shade that does not suit my skintone) but this is more of a warm, sheer sparkle. As you can see, it works well alone but could also be layered over another lipstick for some shine. Another thing I love about this lipgloss is that it's entirely non-sticky. I hate sticky lipglosses, but this is smooth and feels more like a wet balm on application.

The packaging of this feels very classic and glamorous. And I've never tried any Estee Lauder products before so I was excited for this. I've also never used a lip palette before, preferring to apply from a lipstick bullet, so I was eager to try this out. There are five shades here - two golden shimmer lipglosses, a pink lipgloss, a dark red lipgloss and a more lipstick type red shade (in the middle).
Here are my swatches of the two gold shimmer glosses (the top left and top right):

Top to bottom: Top left shade, top right shade

Top left shade

Top right shade

These glosses were sticky. Although I really do like the light shimmer they give. The top left shade was a lot thicker and stickier, whilst the top right shade was a lot smoother and sheerer. Perhaps layered over another colour these would be nice for a subtle shimmer.

Left to right: Centre red shade, Left red shade, Bottom right pink shade
These were my favourites in the palette. Much smoother application, not sticky, had a nice sheen to them. With my red lipstick obsession I was mostly enamoured of the centre red shade (left on the hand swatch). Here they are on the lips:

Bottom right pink shade

Left dark red shade

Centre red shade
Much more pigmented, and lovely application and finish. I really like these, particularly the true red. It's nice to have some more glosses in my collection!

Sorry for the grumpy face in the final photo! That's the blush applied only to foundationed skin. I'm also wearing the Estee Lauder red colour. Isn't this lovely? It's an LE MAC blush from the Jeanius collection, and is a wonderfully neutral matte rose pink. It's very soft and pink and easily buildable and I love it. For my first ever MAC blush this is spot on. Do you have any recommendations for MAC blushes I should try in the future? Because this is easily my second favourite blush formula (NARS beats it by a hair). And this is such a gorgeous colour. I can see this becoming a staple, which is worrying since it's an LE shade!

So, once again, thank you so much to the wonderful Addicted to Beauty for these amazing prizes!

My Christmas Wishlist!

Hey everyone!
Since I've already done my gift guide series, I thought I should include my own Christmas wishlist. I wont include my books, music etc. wishlists since then this page would go on for days and days. Instead I've done pared down fashion and beauty wishlists. Keep in mind that they are wishlists so stuff is expensive but I would never expect to actually receive it! What do you think? What's on your wishlist for this Christmas?

1. T by Alexander Wang Classic Boatneck Mini Dress (£72) : I know, it's expensive. But Alexander Wang does classic, cool casual with such style and simplicity. I want this dress pretty badly.
2. Max Azria Stud-Embellished Silk-Chiffon Skirt (£112): Again, expensive, so any skirt like this would be fine too. I really own very few skirts, as I tend to think they don't suit me. My hips are wider in proportion to the rest of me so puffed-out ones make me look wider. Minis seem to be fine though and this is so lovely.
3. Spike Stud and Cuff Drop Earring (£6.50): So cheap and from Miss Selfridge, which I like. These cuff earrings are pretty cool, and as you will know if you've seen any OOTDs, I like spikes and big statement jewellery, so this is perfect for me.
4. Alexander McQueen Faithful Boots (£575.00): I love these. They were on my birthday wishlist too. I actually saw these in person when I was in NYC the first half of this year and honestly considered bankrupting myself for them. They are so awesome.
5. Ri2K Leather Wallet (£17.00): Just a wallet. I like simple wallets, and I really need a new one, and it's bad luck to buy your own!
6. River Island Brown Leather Satchel (£60.00): I feel like on the high street, River Island is always doing the best bags. This just looks expensive and classic, and roomy as well so I can fit all my ridiculous stuff in it! Isn't it nice?
7. Jeffrey Campbell Litas (£119.00): Who doesn't want these? I want the black, but I also want the silver glitter, and the cream, and the grey...I'd own them all if I was a millionaire. They are amazing. These should really be top of my wishlist.
8. Romwe Openable Silver Ring (£7.18): I really like Romwe for jewellery. This is super simple but bold . It should fit right in with all my other rings. Really love it.
9. Runwaydreamz Vintage Ombre Frayed Short (£97.66): After seeing the lovely Beauty Crush in studded frayed shorts, I'd been looking for a similar pair and then came across these. They are awesome. I want them for spring so badly, and for next year's holiday (if that comes together as planned). They are just so cool. Haha!

1. NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Montego Bay (£18.50): I love matte lipsticks, I love Montego Bay as a place...this colour is gorgeous, you can see it swatched here. It's a lovely rose pink with a hint of coral that would be perfect year-round but particularly come spring.
2. Topshop Blush in High Five (£6.00): Everyone raves about these Topshop cream-to-powder blushes but I've never tried one. Out of all the colours, this one caught my eye the most though so it's where I'd like to start.
3. MUA Heaven & Earth Palette (£4.00): Easy. I love MUA shadows, they are creamy and pigmented. This is meant to be a dupe for the Naked palette, so would serve well as a neutral palette, especially in the new year when I tend towards a craving for the 'natural look'.
4. Sigma Brushes: I want a lot of these - particularly I'm eying up the New York set at the moment. I like the look of their duo-fibre foundation brush, and their eyeshadow brushes. I already have brushes, but I'd like a few extra for days when I'm doing lots of different shades and don't want to have to wash my brushes immediately.
5. OPI Polish in OPI Ink (£10.50): I have liked this colour for ages. Saw it, couldn't find it in my local Sally's and you can probably get it cheaper if you shop around. I just really like this and am a recent inductee into the cult of OPI so have to try out more of their polishes!
6. Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black (£16.50): I have a gel eyeliner from ELF and while I have realised it's my favourite formula to work with, it's very drying and crumbles towards the end of the day. I'm hoping Bobbi Brown's formula will work better for me - lots of other people recommend it.
7. Dolce & Gabbana The One Lace Edition (£52.00): Ok, I already have quite a few perfumes that I love and I'm not trying to replace them but this smells great, looks gorgeous and has a lot of the notes I love in it: bergamot, jasmine, amber.
8. Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes (£20.50): I'm on the hunt for a great mascara. I currently have three, drugstore brands, out of which I would continue to use one because he other two and incredibly drying and flakey. So I thought I'd check out Lancome, who seem to do mascaras pretty well. Alternatively I'd like to try Clinique or Benefit.
9. NARS Blush (£20.50): Any of them, although I already own Oasis. I like the look of Torrid, and Mata Hari, and of course the ubiquitous Orgasm. Sleek blush is also awesome and dupes a lot of NARS colours and formula wise isn't far off. So either or, really!
10. NARS Lipgloss in Female Trouble (£17.50): I love the look of this colour and I've heard NARS make a great, non-sticky gloss which would be a revelation for me!
11. MAC Pigment (£15.50): Any colours. I'd just like some to play around with really. Off the top of my head I love, Old Gold, Rose Pink, Naked and Teal.

Note that there is only one lipstick in the above list! I want loads more: MAC Russian Red, Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Somptueuse, Revlon Matte in Mauve it Over...loads and loads more. If I listed everything I wanted (MAC E/S Ricepaper, L'Occitane Shea Handcream, Benefit They're Real, every single Sleek Blush...) this list would go on forever!

So, what's on your list this year? Also don't forget to check out my giveaway! Click here for your chance to win Sleek, MUA, Revlon, Body Shop, This Works, Lush & Burt's Bees products.

A quick FOTD today, using my MUA Immaculate Collection palette again - as part of my series. You can see look one, two and three by clicking on the links. Four more to come!
I'd like to apologise for the ridiculous face I'm pulling - I had no intention of doing a duck-pout Myspace photo, but I swear it was the only one that came out with half-decent exposure. The winter light is really doing me no favours at the moment!
Hope you like it.

EOTD: MUA Immaculate Collection Dark Blue

Hey guys,
Here's my EOTD! I've been using my MUA Immaculate Collection palette non-stop. I'm thinking about doing these as a series - using all the colours. So far you can see my gold look, and my light blue look. Three colours per look so it would probably be 8 looks total. What do you guys think?

This was using Shade 5 on the lid, Shade 6 on the inner corner and Shade 7 to define the crease, and line the eyes.
I also used Sleek Brow Palette in Dark, and Maybelline The Falsies Volum'Express Mascara in Black Drama.

EOTD: MUA Immaculate Collection Blue

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to quickly show you guys my eye makeup for the day - the rest of my face is pretty usual and I couldn't get any decent photos in the fast fading light. But I wanted to show you my second look with my new MUA Immaculate Collection Palette - this time I tried out the blue colours. I really do love these shadows and I'm impressed with the range of colours.
You can see the first look I experimented with here.

Here are the colours I used:

MUA Eyeshadow in Shade 10 (lid)
MUA Eyeshadow in Shade 11 (inner corner)
MUA Eyeshadow in Shade 22 (outer corner and crease)
All from the MUA Immaculate Collection Palette

I also used:
Sleek Brow Kit in Dark
Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Mascara in Black Drama

Christmas Gift Guide 2011: Beauty Gifts - Back to Basics

Hey everyone!
Welcome to the final instalment of my Christmas Gift Guide. This part will deal with back to basics beauty gifts. You can see the other parts of my gift guide here:

Perfume

1. Marc Jacobs Daisy (£40.50 - £50.40 / usually £45.00 - £56.00): I've spoken about this perfume already here. It's still one of my favourites; light, youthful, fresh-smelling. And who couldn't love the big retro daisies on the bottlecap?
2. DKNY Women  (£29.00): Another fresh perfume - although I do detect the top note of vine-tomato leaves in a slight earthy undertone. Very nice and clean - as is the bottle inspired by New York. I've spoken about this perfume before too, here.

Nails

3. Models Own Polish in Buff Pink (£5.00): You can see a swatch here. A pale, whitened pink, this would look good for a French manicure of just for pale, cloudlike nails.
4. Ciate Paint Pot in Sugared Almond (£9.00):  You can see a swatch here on the lovely Fleur's blog. I love Ciate polishes and their bottles, and the colour is cross between a pink-nude and a brown-nude. Pretty.

Blush

5. Sleek Blush in Pixie Pink (£4.30): You can see swatches of this here, as well as other Sleek blushes. This is a bubblegum pink colour that should be applied with a light hand, but can also be built up for more impact. A very pink, pretty colour.
6. Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose Petal (£20.50): You can see this in one of my Halloween looks. It's a lovely pale pink rose colour with a hint of peach, bringing a natural flush to your cheeks. Perfect as a starter blush, although it is pricey.

Lips

7. MAC Lipstick in Hue (£13.50): The favourite nude of many people, this glaze formula nudey-pink applies like a lipgloss and is pigmented like a lipstick. It's a lovely colour, and you can see swatches of it on my blog here. Definitely a must-have basic nude.
8. Sleek Pout Polish in Bare Minimum (£4.30): I love the texture and feel of this on the lips. It is essentially a clear lip 'conditioner' but with a hint of nude peach. You can see swatches of it here

Eyes

9. Sleek i-Divine Palette in Au Naturel (£6.49): The perfect natural look palette, and great for beginners too. People say this is a cheaper alternative to the Urban Decay Naked palette. You can see my swatches and review of it here.  It has many colours in it for a neutral eye, a smokey eye...although the matte colours are less pigmented than the shimmer.
10. MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study (£13.50): You can see this swatched here. You can use this as a base or primer, or as a neutral wash of colour in it's own right. It has a little shimmer to it, but it's a very pretty colour and seems to work well as a neutral primer. Pricey but lots of people swear by paint pots.
11. Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara (£9.00 / usually £10):  Ok, this maybe isn't a necessity but I always feel like even the most basic makeup I wear has mascara. And this is such a good idea - the tiny brush is perfect for the little bottom lashes, and it could probably be used on the little lashes in the outer corners. You can see it here

Okay, so that wraps up my gift guide for this year! Don't forget to check out the other parts, or add your own suggestions in the comments!
And keep looking out for my next post which shall be all about my Christmas Giveaway!
