FOTD: Happy Sparkly Birthday!
As you can see I dyed my hair just in time for my birthday using the Garnier colour I wrote about in my last haul post and I think it came out rather well. I loved the hairdye too - non itchy, intense colour, made my hair shiny and nice...I've also been using a new shampoo and conditioner which I'll talk about at some point soon. The top is from Brat & Suzie and you can see more of it in my latest OOTD.
Here are the products I used (plenty of them new and to be talked about in a birthday post later):
Face:
MAC Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation in NW20
NARS Concealer in Honey
E.L.F Warm Bronzer
E.L.F All-Over Color Stick in Spotlight
NARS Blush in Oasis
Eyes
MAC Eyeshadows in Amber Lights; Satin Taupe and Cranberry
Maxfactor Liquid Effect Pencil in Brown Blaze
Rimmel Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara in Black
Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown
Lips
MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Blankety
Here are two fairly awful close-ups. I cannot express how much I love MAC's Blankety, it applies perfectly and creamily, the colour is a MLBB shade and it's just perfect! But more on that in another post. For my eyes I applied Amber Lights pretty much all over, darkened out the edges with Satin Taupe and tapped Cranberry pretty heavily into the crease. I love the pink-gold theme of late, as I think has become obvious.
What do you think?

OOTD: Foxy!
Not that I think I look particularly foxy, but the t-shirt makes me have a mental switch to that scene from Wayne's World:
Anyway, here it is. I got the top, bag and the scarf around the bag for my birthday, as well as both rings and earrings.
T-shirt: Brat & Suzie / Shorts: New Look (bought them two years ago, though) / Boots: Oasis (bought last winter for roughly £80)
Bag: Vintage / Louis Vuitton Scarf: Vintage / Boots: Oasis (as above)
Earrings: Gift / Watch: Red Herring (again, a gift) / Turquoise Ring: Gift / Smaller ring: Lorraine Law
I know it's a bit rubbish that most things are gifts and as a result I don't know prices or anything, but thought you might like to see anyway. The rest of my birthday gifts will be posted in a rundown later, as will an FOTD :)

FOTD: Pink and Gold
So, I said I'd try out some stuff from my big haul in an FOTD so here goes the first attempt. The photo above is in direct light, the photo below is lit from the side.
I wanted to go with a neutral-ish golden eye with some brown tones - my underexperienced shot at a MaryKate eye. And then I experimented with a bold, glossy pink lip. It's my thought that bright colours shouldn't be banished to evening looks - mixing it up can be fun. What do you guys think?
Here's a pretty grainy shot of the eyes, and below a terrible lip close-up.
Here's the products I used:
Face
NARS Multi-Protect Primer
Make Up Forever HD Foundation in Ivory
NARS Concealer in Honey
Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose
E.L.F Bronzer in Warm
E.L.F All-Over Color Stick in Spotlight
Eyes
Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown
Rimmel Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara in Black
E.L.F Eyeshadow in Golden Glow (base); Pink Ice (highlight); Mocha (crease)
Avon 24hr Eyeliner in Gold Black
Lips
Barry M Lip Paint in Punky Pink
E.L.F Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry

My Birthday Wishlist!
Hey guys!
So as I've mentioned a few (hundred?) times already, it's my birthday this Sunday. My 21st, actually. And while I'm not expecting to get huge presents and I'll of course love the things I get whatever they are, I thought I'd put together a little birthday wishlist ahead of time. I've selected 10 beauty and fashion products, and left out things like books (of which I want many), gadgets and practicalities.
The next things I'd love are a MAC Pro Palette Eyeshadow x 15 (£11.50 here, pictured centre) to house an array of gorgeous eyeshadows like Amber Lights but also perhaps Satin Taupe; Cranberry; Carbon; Shroom...the list goes on!
Finally - if I was made of money, or my family was, then I'd want these Alexander McQueen Angel Faithful boots ($1,365.99, here). I saw them when my boyfriend and I were browsing Saks in New York and fell in love. Unreciprocated love, of course, because these boots are way out of my wage-league. but aren't they stunning? I love the studded heel, the zippered front, the quilted wing...everything about them is awesome.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of these items are well outside what I'd ever imagine getting for my birthday (especially the shoes!) so this is just a 'if we all won the lottery' kind of thing.

First off is the MAC stuff. I've been dying to get my hands on a MAC lipstick for years now but have never really had the funds. Plus the MAC counter is a little bit daunting! But my favourite shade at the moment (or one of them, anyway) is Blankety (£13.50, here), which is such a lovely nude. I don't have any nude lipsticks so this would be great. I feel it might be a MLBB shade too!
I'd also love love love a Duo Fibre Brush, or more specifically, the MAC 187 (£32.50, here) for applying my foundation. I've been applying it with clean fingers of late for lack of a decent foundation brush and this would perhaps give me that airbrushed finish I've been searching for.
The last thing (apart from the 15 Palette below) would be an Amber Lights eyeshadow to go in said palette (£11.50 here, or £9 for pan). I saw it on the lovely Louise (Sprinkleofglitter)'s MAC E/S Pro Palette video and instantly fell in love. Such a gorgeous deep golden shimmer.

I've also being eyeing the Sleek Storm Palette (£6.49, here) since I started seeing swatches on various blogs. A contender against UD's Naked palette, I've been hearing, and cheaper too which is always a plus. I'd like to try it out, work on my neutral eye.
And I've been hearing everywhere about how totally amazing the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser is (£13.25 for 100ml starter kit, here) and could really use some. I have such weird dry and sensitive skin that a lot of cleansers are too astringent for me. I'd like to use one that doesn't make my face feel like it's on fire! So I hope, if I am lucky enough to receive this, or save to buy it myself, that it works for me too.

I just ran out of my Sephora Instant Moisturizer ($20, here) which I picked up in the States. It is incredibly lightweight, non-greasy and gentle on the skin and it absorbs quite quickly, leaving my skin with a little bit of a dewy finish. I really adore it but it's hard to get hold of Sephora stuff in the UK, unless I buy it from the French website or get one of my US friends to send it to me. Heartbroken here!
Also, I'd love to stock up on some more Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Parfum (£44 for 30ml, here). I've almost run out of my bottle, but the newest invention of it smells amazing. I was in House of Fraser, Glasgow the other day and this amazingly lovely saleslady started talking it up to me. I should also mention that the ladies at the MAC and NARS counters were amazing too! But anyway - she says that the perfumier for Chanel recently switched to Dior and created the newest incarnation of the frangrance - adding some subtle base notes to make it more grown up. Then she spritzed me some and I swear I couldn't stop smelling it. Gorgeous!

I'd also love a Cambridge Satchel Company Batchel in Yellow (£93, here). Yellow is my favourite colour, so I'm drawn to it anyway, but I love these satchels. I think they are cool and practical and the satchel is a classic so it will most likely never go out of style. I'd love this as my book bag for the new semester of Uni. You can get them in various colours and styles on the website as well as having them embossed so each one can be somewhat personal to you.
Anyway, that's my lottery-win birthday wishlist. What would be on yours??

NOTW: Ciate My Fair Lady
As I mentioned in my big haul post , I got this Ciate Paint Pot in My Fair Lady free, with an issue of Marie Claire magazine. I've been loathe to swatch it for you because my nails are in super terrible condition at the moment, but didn't want to put it off any longer.
As far as I can tell, this colour was released especially for Marie Claire so you can't buy it on the website, but I snapped it up since it was almost a third of regular price! I think the Ciate bottles are so cute - they are meant to be designed to fit easily into your hand, which they do, and the long handle for the brush is really helpful. Plus the bow is adorable.
My nails are really awful right now - they keep chipping and getting raggedy at work and I really need a manicure done! I'm awful at filing my own nails - it gives me the heebiejeebies. But here goes:
It took three coats to get it this opaque, but I'm sure that's true of most nudey pinks like this. It applies really nicely though, no tacky bits or lumps. It also dries relatively quickly. I really love the colour of this - a very pale beigey pink. If my nails where nicer or longer I'd wear this as an everyday polish but until then I think, like most nail polish, it serves only to highlight their various imperfections! I'll update once I get my nails sorted.
If you like the colour, they have a lot on offer at the Ciate website, but they are £9 each. From what I've seen of the colours and the application, however, it's probably worth it!
Have you tried any of their other colours out? Thoughts?
UPDATE: So many giveaways lately! It seems like everyone's in a super generous mood! Check out the lovely Fern's blog and follow for the chance to win a cute necklace!
It might be too early for me to do a giveaway but it's my birthday this weekend and I'll be in the giving mood so if you think it's a good plan let me know! Comment and/or follow! :)

Lush Skincare: Any Good?
Last week, when I was shopping in Glasgow, I nipped into Lush. I have always loved Lush bathbombs but I've never ventured into the world of skincare with them. My mum can't even use the products - her skin is so sensitive that the various scented things in them make her itchy!
But I needed a new cleanser, and thought why not give it a go?
Lush 9 to 5 Cleanser (£4.50 for 95g, here) is made with almond oil and orchid extract, and is Lush's first liquid cleanser, if I'm not mistaken. Since it was liquid and is supposed to be gentle, I picked it up instead of the others. Plus it smells quite lovely, like Ponds Cold Cream.
This is my hand covered in makeup I wear most often:
Makeup Forever HD Foundation; E.L.F Warm Bronzer; Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose Petal; E.L.F Eyeshadow in Pink Ice, Golden Glow, Mocha and Moondust; E.L.F Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry; Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown; Avon 24hr Eyeliner in Gold Black; Rimmel Glam'Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara in Black.
Wow. And that's without powder or concealer, which I forgot to put on. It feels weird seeing all the stuff I put on my face piled onto my hand like that.
Then I put on the cleanser:
Please excuse my weird splayed hand. Anyway, like I said, this goes on really smoothly and easily, and you don't need too much so it should last for a while.
One swipe with a cotton wool pad and this was all gone. It does take off you makeup quite easily, although obviously with your face being a bigger surface area you'll need more than one pad! Also, having used this on my face I find that it's not great at taking off eye makeup - I'm afraid of getting the lotion in my eye, and it doesn't deal very well with waterline eyeliner or tough mascara, so a special eye makeup remover may be required!
It took two sides of a cotton pad (and ewwww look at it!) but it does remove the makeup. If I had to say another minus point, it would be that for a little while afterward the skin can feel a little oily/greasy, but that fades.
Overall, not the best cleanser I've ever used but far from the worst! If you have quite dry skin this could be for you, although I'd avoid it if your skin is oily. And don't expect it to be a miracle worker with tough mascara!

Sunday Soother
Hi!
I know I've been lax on the blogging front this week, so sorry. Work and Uni prep caught up with me so I've been a bit behind. There will be a couple more posts today and hopefully loads more next week in the lead up to my birthday! In the meantime:
What better to cure those Sunday blues than a GIVEAWAY! Not mine, of course (not yet, anyway). But the lovely JC over at Makeup Diary is hosting a huge giveaway 'just because'. How lovely is that? There are three winners and the prizes are super awesome. They include MAC gift vouchers and Urban Decay palettes. I won't tell you everything because you should just click here and see for yourself!

Geeky Fashion - ASOS App for iPad
Sorry for the awful picture quality but I finally downloaded the ASOS app for my iPad and wanted to share it with you. I got a bit of a geeky thrill with this, as the vast majority of the images are interactive, you can buy directly from the photo and there are little video clips and animations throughout. I know a lot of magazines and books for iPad are like this but I really enjoyed the design and feel of this one. So, if you have an iPad, check it out.
All opinions are my own, I was not asked to write about this :)

Big Shopping Haul: Superdrug, Boots, ELF, Primark & New Look! Part 2
You can catch Part 1 here!
I'm gonna go ahead and warn you that this is really picture heavy! Sorry!
Also, I'll be using all the makeup products in upcoming FOTDs, so there are no face examples or reviews of how they last or look on the face, just swatches and first impressions!
So the reason I was even in town in the first place was for this:
I already swatched and reviewed these polishes, which I love and got 3 for 2 from Boots. Check that out here.
Barry M Lip Paints were 2 for £7 in Boots so I picked up these two colours:
The first is Punky Pink, which is a really pigmented matte deep pink. Barry M products always seem to have a good colour payoff, and this being my first lipstick purchase I wasn't disappointed.
This is two swipes, so you can see it's a really gorgeous colour. It feels quite moisturising but I've heard other places that Barry M Lip Paints are drying so this might be the case. I'll let you know when I do put it on!
The second I chose was Peach. I've been looking for a coral lipstick for ages and since it was on offer, I thought I'd give it a go.
Here it is swatched on the right, next to Punky Pink. It's a really nice peachy coral, creamy and pigmented. This is, again, two swipes but you can see the payoff is great. I think this will look really good on more tan skin tones.
I also got a THIRD lipstick, and this one I was really excited about. I've heard about Sleek for ages now as I'm sure you guys have. I really wanted to get myself something from the brand but I'm holding off on buying the Storm Palette because it's my birthday 2 weeks today and I have my fingers crossed I might get it as a present. Instead, I bought a lipstick.
This is Peaches & Cream (£4, here), a sheer, glossy-looking peachy coral (again!). I just wanted to mention that I think the packaging is really cute and it's not often a company can stray away from the squared-off, classic lipstick format and still look classy (unless it's MAC!), but they seem to have managed it here. You may think this is the exact same colour I got from Barry M, so I compared the two:
Here they are side by side in tube: left is Barry M in Peach, right is Sleek Peaches & Cream.
Here's Sleek Peaches & Cream swatched alone. I LOVE the formula here. The minute I swatched it it felt creamier and more moisturising than the Barry M formulas. It has a nice sheen to it, looks like it would be shiny without being glossy. I love the colour too - maybe a little more peach than coral, but I like it a lot.
Here they are swatched side by side - left is again, Barry M, right is Sleek. I think you can see, Barry M i s darker, more coral, and more matte than the Sleek. Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that it was ok to buy both!
Ok, so the next thing I got was my E.L.F package! I was so excited for this - it's my first time buying from E.L.F and I can say in general I was pretty impressed with what I got - plus the speedy shipping (in my case, anyway).
The first thing I got was a Custom Compact with four removable eyeshadow pans (£.150 for the compact, £1.50 each for the pans, here). I was surprised that the compact looked quite nice - not ultra expensive but not totally cheap, a decent sized mirror inside and it came with a brush (although, being a sponge, I'll most likely never use it).
And these are the colours I chose. In the left photo, left to right: Pink Ice; Golden Glow; Mocha and Moondust. In the palette, starting top left and going clockwise: Pink Ice; Golden Glow; Moondust and Mocha. So you can see I went for a neutral, golden-brown type palette here (probably NAKED envy!) but I really liked the colours before I even swatched them. And then I did:
Left to right: Pink Ice; Golden Glow; Moondust; Mocha. This is about 2 swipes with a fairly heavily packed brush, but I think you'll agree that the pigmentation is great. I really like these colours, you could use them together or with other neutrals. The seem great for autumn to me, like they are quiet autumnal colours anyway. Pink Ice and Golden Glow have a little bit of shimmer to them whereas Moondust and Mocha are a bit more matte. The formula feels nice, although I doubt they'll be very long-wearing!
The next thing in my box is the All Over Colour Stick in Spotlight (£1.50, here). I'd run out of my Benefit Highbeam so was looking for a cheap alternative for the meanwhile. This is a cream stick so it's not quite the same but I quite like the colour. I also liked the packaging for this and how wide the stick is. It's quite chunky and cool.
It's a pearlescent, creamy almost white. I wasn't a massive fan of the consistency, especially with the first swipe it didn't seem creamy enough but I suppose warmed up between fingers or applied gently with a brush it might do the trick. When I use it I'll let you know. I also have to say this smelled really orangey, which I personally loved. Not like natural orange, more like orange sweets!
The next thing was Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Strawberry, which was nothing as light or peachy as it looks on the website (£1.50, here). I didn't like the packaging of this so much but the idea of clicking the product up onto the applicator was kind of neat and on the first go reminded me of Play-Doh. Like when you used to make hair with it?
So you can see this is a really raspberry pink. This is quite a lot of it, but one swipe so it's quite pigmented and very, very glossy. It is like a cross between a lipgloss and a lipstick with the colour being so full on, but I think its cute. Maybe a way to wear bright colours in the day? I'll let you know.
Lastly from E.L.F was the Warm Bronzer from the Studio line (£3.50, here).
I definitely prefer the Studio line's black packaging, it's much classier. It also comes with a large-ish mirror which is great. The four colours are designed to be mixed together but I suppose if you really wanted you could use them alone, depending on your skintone. I used them all together when swatching.
It's not the best picture as by this point the light was fading but as you can see it's a pretty golden-brown colour with a little light shimmer in it. This probably works better for summer and they have a cool bronzer for winter, but I really like this shade. It's very warm, quite sheer, not too dark. It is, however, my first foray into the world of bronzer (for a pale Scottish girl like me, I always feared looking way too fake) so I'll have to let you know how it goes on my face!
Last three things very quickly! I got this free in Marie Claire so it's not really part of the haul but it's such a pretty colour, the Ciate Paint Pot in My Fair Lady:
Isn't it cute? I love the way these bottles are curved to fit into your hand and that the handle of the brush is long for easier application (thank goodness, with my unsteady hands!). I'll do a swatch and review after I finish using this next product for a week, which should be Wednesday:
It's Sally Hansen Maximum Growth Daily Nail Treatment (£4.75, here). You apply a coat of it to clean, dry nails every day for a week and it's supposed to improve growth and strengthen your nails. So far, on my 4th day, I can definitely see an improvement. My nails are stronger, I'm not biting them and they are therefore most definitely longer! So expect a full review of this soon!
FINALLY!!! Not a swatch or review, but - my boyfriend and I were cleaning out my room for a car boot sale when I stumbled across a bunch of stuff I got for Christmas but had forgotten about when I went away in January. Among all my glorious finds, I found:
A full-size, unused bottle of Benetint!! I was so excited!
Anyway, that's my haul over. What'd you guys think? Is this something I should do more of in the future and is there a way I could improve on the way it's delivered? Let me know!
S x

So the reason I was even in town in the first place was for this:
Sometimes for a treat I’ll get my hair coloured as I get it cut at my favourite salon, but I can’t afford that most of the time and so I dye it out of a bottle. However, I like my red to be quite intensely red – not browny-red or purpley-red but more of a true red. So when these new Garnier colours came out I figured I had to try them out. I’m glad because I like the Garnier formula but thought the colours were less bright and this means I don’t have to resort to Manic Panic, which I hate application-wise. A full before and after and review coming soon! I couldn't find them on the internet except for at Tesco, at the price I bought them for - £5.50.
But once I was in Superdrug I ended up buying a couple of things, and then I went to Boots and bought a couple of other things. Shortly after that, a nice box arrived containing my order from ELF so it was a bit of a makeup overload.
Barry M Lip Paints were 2 for £7 in Boots so I picked up these two colours:

Anyway, that's my haul over. What'd you guys think? Is this something I should do more of in the future and is there a way I could improve on the way it's delivered? Let me know!

Sunday Soother
Today's Sunday cheer-up...
BUBBLES!
A couple of weeks ago I had £1 in my pocket, and my cousin and I nipped into this terrible toy shop and bought bottles of bubble fluid for 40p. I discovered them again today! Fun :)

Big Shopping Haul: Superdrug, Boots, ELF, Primark & New Look! Part 1
Ok, so that big bunch of haul posts I promised? I’ve been a little late in keeping up with them, to be honest. But here they are now, so I apologise for the wait.
I went on a big old retail therapy jaunt in the city centre the other day. I managed not to overspend though – a lot of things were pretty cheap or on deal.
Here’s a couple photos of the makeup, accessories and clothes I got.
I didn’t really know how to set this post out because I didn’t want it to be so picture and word heavy that no one would want to read it, but still wanted to review the products properly, so I’ve broken it down into a couple segments. I suppose it’d be easier if I had a Youtube Channel but I’m not particularly sure anyone would want to watch that!
This first part is about the clothes and accessories I bought. The second part will be about the makeup. Just makes it easier to read!
All the clothes I got are from New Look – they seemed to have loads of nice stuff in now that most of the sale stuff is gone.
This dress is so cute – I saw one similar to it in Primark and in Zoella’s haul video but this was the colour I was after, a kind of bright coral-orange colour. It fits really well and falls quite heavily which makes it look more expensive than it was (£32.99). This is the favourite thing I got.
I’d been looking for a pleated chiffon skirt for ages but most of them were pastels and I really wanted a dark one. This is a good length too – not floor length which can be difficult in Scotland (rain, rain, rain!) but no tiny and ballerina-y either. I really love the navy colour and think this will work well as a transition piece. (£24.99)
The top I love too. It’s actually a sort of tie-bottom top which will work well with jeans but here I’ve tucked the two front tails in. It’s the kind of oversized/ drapey look I prefer with tops and I’m having a bit of a yellow obsession at the moment, so that’s good. (£9.99)
All my accessories were from Primark. I got 1 thing in the sale but the other pieces were equally cheap.
My mum used to have this necklace that was a black snake with a gold head and tail – the mouth clasped onto the tail so the snake wrapped all around. This gold snake ring really reminded me of that and how much I loved that necklace so I snapped it up for £1.00.
This is the same as the one from the Zoella haul which I realised when I got back but I really loved it and bought it anyway. I have a bit of a thing for animals on jewellery (as you can see from the snake ring and probably will in ensuing posts). It’s quite cool anyway, and it only cost £2.00.
This is one of those stiffened headbands that you can style. I’m always picking up silk scarves in charity shops and vintage places to tie around my hair or my bag and this swallow pattern was really cute so I picked it up too for £1.50.
So, hope I did ok at that – not really sure if this is how to set out haul posts. Any suggestions are totally welcome :)
Next up is the makeup – watch out for it tonight!
